So I was sent to a Catholic school for K-8. The card my mom gave me on graduation day read:
"Congratulations on finishing 8 years of Catholic school! This guarentees..."
(open card)
"...that you'll always feel a tiny bit guilty."
*sigh* It's true, too.
Today, we are not religious at all. I don't think I've been to any church service outside of weddings/funerals in more than two years. If you really want to ask, I'll be happy to go into my beliefs, but that's not really why I'm writing.
The reason I'm writing is Easter.
It's with mixed feelings that I admit that I "buy in" to the commercial aspects. I did baskets for Beloved, Boy, and the cats. I like the magic involved...the Easter bunny is as important in my child-mind as Santa Clause.
But...well...
At Christmas, I did two stockings for Beloved. One for my husband, and one for my Master.
While it occurred to me to do a second basket on Easter, it felt wrong...dirty. I thought it kind of bizarre. Beloved said that Easter is less commercialized and still carries religious overtones. I'm not sure THAT is quite true...stroll down any local grocery store and you'll find an aisle dedicated to Easter crap...plastic eggs, special candy, bunny ears, clings, ornaments, blow-up lawn decorations....
So what's the deal? Anyone else have a thought on this? Or am I the only silly slave with conniptions of consciousness around this holiday? Regardless, Happy Easter...
*laughs* And then Kate leaves this in my IM...
ReplyDelete"Happy Zombie Jesus day!"
hmmmmmmm...
