Question of the Day

BiterofBits asks, "In your opinion what, if any, is the difference between submission and surrender?"

I think the difference is in the mindset, in the attitude of the person submitting/surrendering. When I say I will submit, it is not necessarily a happy pixie that yields to the authority or will of another (part of merriam-webster's definition of "submit"). Submitting often is accompanied with a dislike of a task, fear of the outcome, struggles with humility, or resentment of the situation.

Surrender is usually more graceful, less of a fight. I agree to forgo especially in favor of another (again, part of merriam-webster's definition of "surrrender"). Surrender is more peaceful in my mind, the service easier to offer.

  1. Submission makes the transition into a title better: submissive as apposed to surrenderer, surrenderive, surrenderant, etc
