adolescent raciness?

I will be the first to admit that I haven't a clue about current hotties, in any category. I just don't follow such things. However, an article about Miley Cyrus caught my eye because the starlet was so embarrassed about some photos that were posted in Vanity Fair. "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed."

I happen to like artistic photography, so I went looking for the incriminating photos. *sigh* I hate people. The two photos, one of Cyrus alone and one with her father, are beautiful! The half-nude, to me, seems shy and innocent, not sulty and racy. That anyone should make Cyrus feel embarrassed about the pictures is just shameful.

But that's my opinion. What's yours?

  1. I have mixed feelings about it. She is 15, and she has been sexualized well past what I can condone for that young a girl. On the other hand, she is a savvy little thing, and she obviously knows what she's doing. So for me the question is a little trickier than "are those pictures too much??" It makes me sad to see them.

  2. Honestly, My feelings on those pictures are based on how I would feel if it was MY daughter in the picture. I would not allow My daughter to be photographed in a pose like that at 15 years of age. As an aside, I showed the half-nude pic to My youngest daughter (who is 10 yrs old) and asked her what she thought of it (with no other setup and no text on the screen). Her first reaction was "I know her" but she couldn't identify who it was. When I told her who it was, she was shocked and said that Miley should not have posed for the picture (because boys might see it, and she's naked).

  4. I'm new to your blog, coming to you through a comment on mj's blog. I've read back up to the end of February, and I'm trying to figure out why your blog needs the click off option before getting in...are there pictures in March or April that I haven't gotten to yet?

  6. As far as the photos are concerned, my first reaction was "where were her parents in all this?" Then I remembered a photo essay I saw at the Met in NYC several years ago, a woman photographer who took pictures of her daughters and managed to make them as sensual (as opposed to sexy) as the photos under discussion.
