Warning...all about girlie stuff

So is it "good news" when medical tests come back normal, but that's not what you wanted to hear? *cocks head*

Here's the deal:
I was on various hormonal birth controls (pills, Depo) for about 14 years straight. I got pregnant the first month I stopped taking the meds, so really no problem there. I had hyperemesis gravidum, which might have been related to the birth control use, but there's no way to know. My menstruation cycles started up about seven months after I gave birth, which is pretty normal.

What ISN'T normal is the length of the cycles. I'm barely getting 20 days between cycles, meaning I can have two periods in one month. Each time, my moon lasts 8-10 days, several of those are HEAVY days, too, and I lose about half a pint of blood. (I use The Keeper, so yeah, I do know how much it is.) I'm losing enough blood to be borderline anemic, for pete's sake.

My doctor decided to take a look at my thyroid functions, thinking that something might be abnormal, but he called today saying everything is fine. *frowns* No...everything IS NOT fine. I'm just not sure what to do about it now.

  1. Try a herbalist or a naturopath, it seems like you may have Menorrhagia. Its one of the most common forms of irregular periods.

It causes you to experience heavy and prolonged bleeding every month, along with a variety of other symptoms. Women with menorrhagia lose more than the typical 60mL of blood during menstruation.

    Hope that helps?

  2. It's certainly a start! Thanks... My doctor had made an offhanded comment about trying progesterone cream. Reading up on menorrhagia, progesterone is one of the treatments, so I guess I'll make another appointment to discuss it.

  3. I took progesterone tablets pending an operation to remove an endometrial cyst, which was causing symptoms like yours. The big minus is that progesterone diminishes your libido! It is used in the US to 'chemically castrate' certain types of sexual offenders. I worried for a while about the fact that my orgasms were less intense, and more difficult to reach. After my operation however, all returned to normal, orgasms and periods.

  4. *soft chuckle* a reduced libido wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing...as it is, I crave sex more than Beloved does. But thank you very much for the warning!

I'd just like to have "normal" cycles...after years of limited or NO period, this is really sucking the big one!

  5. The DepoProvera injection "could" help but I wouldn't advise it as the drug that is used is the one pet mentiontioned and is now under scrutiny and probably going to be withdrawn from the masses. It did however stop mine completely when I did use it.
